Learning SEO: A Personal Journey from Agency Management to Success

In December 2024, my knowledge of SEO was virtually nonexistent. Fast forward a few months, and I’ve immersed myself in learning everything I can through informative videos, community discussions, and insightful articles.

In January 2025, I made the decision to hire an agency to develop and manage a website for me. They created the site at no cost and charged me less than $200 per month to produce quarterly blog posts. At that time, I was still quite naive about SEO and website management.

However, after requesting access to Google Search Console (GSC) last week, I was stunned to discover that my domain had only two indexed pages. Shockingly, these did not include the two blog posts they had produced, nor did they encompass the numerous other articles I had submitted for publication.

In contrast, my newer domains—established just three to four weeks ago within the same niche—hold far more indexed pages and generate significantly greater impressions (with 3,000 and 3,500 impressions compared to only 1,380). To add to my relief, my recent blog posts are indexed within a mere 24 hours.

Looking back, I’m grateful that my contract with this agency is set to expire next January. This journey has underscored the importance of acquiring SEO knowledge firsthand; relying on an agency can sometimes lead to unmet expectations and minimal results. I’m now empowered with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of SEO, ensuring my future endeavors are far more successful.

Embracing self-education in SEO is not just a lesson learned—it’s an invaluable investment in my digital journey.
