Should I Revamp My URL Structure? A Dilemma for Business Websites
Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out to seek your insights on an important decision regarding the URL structure of my business website. As many of you know, a well-optimized URL can significantly impact search engine rankings and user experience.
Currently, our service URLs follow the format /services/service-name/ (for example, /services/window-washing/). However, for one particular service, we opted for a URL that incorporates a broader keyword target: /services/window-cleaning-company/.
In the past year, we’ve faced some considerable challenges with our website’s performance, prompting us to re-evaluate our strategy and implement substantial changes. Among these updates, we aim to simplify our URL structure by eliminating the /services/ part altogether and updating the naming of some services.
The plan is to transition from /services/window-cleaning-company/ to a more concise /window-cleaning/ and set up a redirect from the original URL to the new one.
Here’s where my hesitation lies: the original URL is performing quite admirably in search rankings and has garnered several quality backlinks.
So, I ask you—would you proceed with the change, risking the potential drop in ranking for the sake of a cleaner URL? Or would it be wiser to maintain the unconventional URL structure for this particular service? Your experiences and opinions would be greatly appreciated!
