Mastering Local SEO: Strategies for Property Management Businesses
Navigating the waters of local SEO can be quite challenging, especially for businesses in competitive fields like property management. While my company ranks among the top positions for many of our location-based transactional keywords—often landing in the top five—we’re still grappling with the intense competition presented by pay-per-click ads, the local pack, and various rich snippets. Even with a solid second-place ranking for some keywords, I often find our visibility hampered by the presence of these paid listings.
Currently, we boast respectable topical authority which allows us to rank well for numerous new keywords, although these opportunities seem to be dwindling. To stay competitive, I’ve decided to delve into link building, particularly as we’ve noticed a surge in aggressive tactics from our main competitors.
As I embark on this journey, I have a few pressing questions regarding best practices:
1. Are Online Directories Still Effective?
There seems to be mixed advice circulating about the relevance of online directories these days. Our main competitors have listings on platforms like Yellow Pages, and I’m considering whether it would be beneficial to establish our presence there as well. Are these directories still a viable channel for improving local visibility, or are they becoming obsolete?
2. Should I Focus on Google My Business Over Our Website in Link Building?
In reviewing our competitors’ approaches, I’ve observed that many of their Google My Business (GMB) listings are marred by inconsistent or less-than-stellar reviews, typically ranging between 3.5 to 4.5 stars. Given that I currently don’t have control over the review process, I’m hesitant to prioritize our GMB link in our link-building strategy. Would linking to these GMB listings be prudent or counterproductive?
3. Additional Local SEO Insights
I would greatly appreciate any further recommendations or tips that can enhance our local SEO efforts. Understanding which strategies yield the best results will be vital as we seek to strengthen our position in the local market.
As I continue to navigate this complex landscape, I look forward to your insights and suggestions. Let’s work together to elevate our local SEO game in the competitive arena of property management!
