From Ideation to Income: My Journey in Event Blogging
Back in November 2018, I stumbled upon the concept of “Event Blogging.” Intrigued by the potential, I decided to launch a simple WordPress blog dedicated to covering an upcoming movie that was set to premiere in January 2019. With enthusiasm in tow, I promptly secured a domain and hosting through Namecheap, incurring a modest investment:
- Domain Cost: $8.88 for one year
- Hosting Cost: $17.28 for one year
This initial expenditure totaled just $26.16.
Once the technical setup was complete, I dedicated the next couple of weeks to crafting 3 to 4 articles about the film, including various details about the cast and production. However, the response was underwhelming, leading me to scrap those posts and pivot my content focus.
I shifted gears to address popular academic exams in India, providing in-depth information on eligibility criteria, syllabi, key dates, and recommended study materials. My commitment to consistency paid off; I published approximately one article of about 1,000 words each week. Initially, I refrained from engaging in any link-building, opting instead for basic on-page optimizations.
By March 2019, my efforts began to bear fruit when traffic rose to around 1,000 visitors per month. I continued my routine of producing one article weekly, gradually increasing the length to approximately 2,000 words. By November 2019, my monthly traffic surged to 12,000.
Despite this growth, I had yet to monetize my efforts—no ads or affiliate marketing was in place until then. In a strategic move to capitalize on my traffic, I created a detailed mock test for one of the exams gaining significant interest. Drawing from my own experience as a test-taker, I crafted engaging questions that captivated my audience.
Upon launching the mock test, I incorporated a prominent banner on the sidebar and included relevant internal links to boost visibility. This strategic approach culminated in earning $250 in December 2019 and an impressive $350 in January 2020; I anticipated crossing $400 shortly thereafter. At this point, my monthly traffic had climbed to nearly 16,000.
The Numbers Behind My Adventure
Let’s break down the financials and time investment:
