Have I Undermined My Company’s Website? Seeking Guidance After Major Changes

As a student recently tasked with improving my company’s website, I made several modifications to our WordPress platform, believing I was enhancing its performance and visibility. Here’s a quick rundown of what I implemented:

  • Meta Descriptions: I crafted and added new meta descriptions to improve SEO.
  • LightSpeed Cache: I enabled LightSpeed Cache to boost site speed.
  • Keyword Update: I modified a keyword on the landing page, opting for a relevant synonym to refine our search engine targeting.
  • Lazy Loading Settings: I briefly enabled and then disabled lazy loading through the EWWW optimizer.
  • Audio Embeds: I incorporated audio embeds to enrich our article content.
  • Slug Changes: I updated a few slugs, specifically for our blog posts.

Initially, Google Analytics 4 data indicated a significant rise in organic and direct traffic, which was reassuring. However, when I checked Amplitude, I was shocked to see an 80% decrease in traffic. Prior to my changes, the traffic trends had been stable, so this dramatic decline was alarming.

Given these conflicting analytics, I’m reaching out for advice on what might be causing this sudden drop. Did I overlook something crucial in my adjustments? I’m open to constructive criticism—after all, I’d prefer not to find myself in hot water over this situation!

If you have any suggestions or insights regarding my changes or analytics interpretation, please share. Your expertise could be vital as I navigate this challenging scenario. Thank you!
