Navigating Deep Links and SEO for Event Websites: Seeking Insights
As I venture deeper into the realm of web development for my events site, which has been in the works for about a year now, I find myself at a crossroads regarding deep linking and its impact on Search Engine Optimization (SEO). With approximately 3,000 events listed—featuring artists, lineups, and detailed write-ups—I recently launched a mobile app that complements the site, allowing users to access event pages directly through deep links.
However, I’ve encountered a significant hurdle. After Googlebot crawled my sitemap, it flagged around 3,000 links as redirects, leading to an unexpected report:
- Page Indexing: Page with redirect is not indexed.
- Discovery Sitemaps: No referring sitemaps detected.
- Crawl Report: Last crawl on May 17, 2025, at 5:44 PM, using Googlebot for smartphones.
- Crawl Status: Successful with allowed indexing.
- Canonical Tags: No user-declared canonical URLs, with Google-selected canonical marked as N/A.
This raises a crucial question: If deep linking is generally considered advantageous for SEO, why aren’t my deep-linked pages being indexed properly?
I’m eager to gather insights from others who have navigated similar challenges. How do you manage the relationship between deep links and your website to ensure both are optimized for search engines? Your experiences and strategies would be invaluable to me as I seek to resolve this issue.
