Google Gemini: An AI Assistant That Struggles with Consistency

In the landscape of AI technology, Google Gemini has emerged as a contender, yet many users, including myself, have encountered significant shortcomings that raise concerns about its reliability as an assistant.

As a non-coder, I recently attempted to utilize Gemini to help me create HTML tables using resources I had collected. I took the initiative to save several webpages detailing free HTML instructions as PDFs, ensuring easy access by uploading them to my Google Drive. Initially, when I sought assistance, Gemini performed admirably, generating code based on the content it had access to.

However, this positive experience quickly soured. After successfully answering my first question, the AI became notably uncooperative. Each time I followed up with related queries, it presented a series of baffling excuses about its inability to access the files I had stored. For instance, although it acknowledged the presence of HTML files in my Drive, listed them by name, and even made them clickable for quick access, it refused to read from them just moments later when I needed further assistance.

This pattern of initial competence followed by frequent refusal to assist was both frustrating and perplexing. It seemed as if Gemini was more intent on avoiding Engagement than facilitating a productive dialogue.

The Bottom Line

In conclusion, while my early interactions with Google Gemini showed promise, the subsequent inconsistency has left me disillusioned. I find myself considering alternatives—especially when rival services not only provide more reliable support with these tasks but also offer a better overall experience, even in their free versions.
