Navigating Local Business Directories: Address Discrepancies and SEO Concerns
As a part of establishing a presence in local business communities, joining local business groups can be incredibly beneficial. One of the perks of membership is often the inclusion in their business directory. However, for service-oriented businesses like mine, the details can become a bit tricky.
My primary service area is based in a town approximately 50 miles away, where I draw a substantial number of quality clients. As a result, there’s been little incentive to relocate, especially since I’ve secured a solid Google My Business (GMB) listing at my current address. I’m hesitant to create an additional GMB listing at my home, as everything I’ve learned suggests that could easily lead to account suspension, particularly due to the challenges of video verification for residential addresses. So, I’m left wondering if there are safer alternatives.
I’m comfortable using my home address for participation in these local business groups; however, I have concerns about visibility. Specifically, my home address would be listed in multiple directories. Could this discrepancy—where my business operates at one address while my home is listed in these directories—raise any red flags with Google regarding SEO?
Interestingly, my website already features a dedicated page for the city where I reside, although it currently lacks a specific address. My hope is that by leveraging my involvement in local directories with my home address, I can somehow enhance the SEO performance of my website’s city page. Ideally, I’m aiming for a situation where this could lead to a small SEO boost for that location, even if it doesn’t include my home address directly.
